How it came to be.

The healing power of touch has been with us since the dawn of time, in fact, many of the creatures in the Animal Kingdom instinctively use touch to soothe and reassure each other. No wonder it is such a powerful therapy.

The Romans and Egyptians used massage and the Ancient Greeks set up Massage Schools in their centres of health, known a gymnasiums.

Hippocrates in the fifth century BC discovered the benefits of massage as it is used today although he did not understand why at the time. We now understand more about the human body and this is why Western Massage techniques have developed as they have.

Massage in Europe died out after the Roman Empire collapsed but reemerged in the sixteenth century, mainly in France. Since then it has been refined and gradually regulated to the standards of today.

In India and the Far East, massage has been practiced for hundreds of years. You will find that Traditional Chinese Massage is performed in a different way and for different reasons to that of Western Massage.
